If anyone can assist me I apprecitate it very much. When I download my results files and change them to a csv file, I seem to be losing the fractional times. They do not appear in my excel file. Also, if you know how to get them to merge over, is there away to automatically convert from raw time to adjusted time for beaten lengths at each call?

Q. Where are my HDW files stored?

A. All files that you get from HDW using the HDW File Mgr in JCapper are downloaded to (and stored) on the folder you have checked/persisted as active in JCapper's DFM (Data Folder Manager) at the time of download.

Example -- If you have the c:\2019\Q2_2019 folder checked as active in the DFM: Any files that you download are sent to/ stored on that same folder (until such time as you manually delete them or move them.)

The HDW Text Chart Results file contains all of the data needed to make a chart for the thoroughbred races of any given race-card.

Q. How are my HDW Text Chart Files named?

A. HDW F.TXT chart file naming schema: Track Code (first 2 or 3 characters), Month (next 2 characters), Day of Month (next 2 characters), the letter "F" (without the quotes), and the file extension ".TXT" (again without the quotes.)

Example HDW F.TXT chart filename for Arlington Park 05-25-2019 is: AP0525F.TXT

Q. How do I open an HDW Text Chart Result file in Excel?

A. If you double click a file after changing the file extension from ".TXT" to ".CSV" (both without the quotes), the file will pop open in Excel. My recommendation would be that you put copies of F.TXT files onto a non-JCapper folder first before doing this. That way, if you accidentally change anything in the file while you have it open in Excel, your original files will still be sitting on the JCapper folder where you downloaded them.

Q. Is there a field mapping doc?

A. Yes. Link to Field Mapping Doc - here: http://www.jcapper.com/messageboard/reports/Comma_Delimited_Charts_Spec.pdf

Note that there are two charts at the bottom of the field mapping doc linked to above.

The first chart shows points of call in the race Equibase uses for sectional timing.

• Sectional timing, first fraction/second fraction:

Fractional Times of the race leader at the First Fraction Call are stored in field #28... or column AB if the file is open in Excel.

Fractional Times of the race leader at the Second Fraction Call are stored in field #29... or column AC if the file is open in Excel.

Note that first fraction/second fraction are the two most important points of call if you are considering early pace.

The second chart at the bottom of the field mapping doc linked to above shows points of call in the race Equibase uses for position and leader margin/beaten lengths.

Note that for many race distances (but not all) the points of call used by Equibase for sectional timing and the points of call used by Equibase for sectional position and leader margin/beaten lengths are the same.

BUT (especially if you are making your own velocity based numbers) you need to BE AWARE there ARE race distances where the points of call used by Equibase for sectional timing ARE DIFFERENT than the points of call used for sectional position and and leader margin/beaten lengths!

For example, the first chart shows that for the 5F distance - the first fraction is taken at the 1/4 and the second fraction is taken at the 1/2.

But the second chart shows that for the same 5F distance - the first point of call for position and beaten lengths is taken at 3/16ths and the second point of call for position and beaten lengths is taken at 3/8ths.

This is the info model that Equibase uses when it compiles and reports data to its data resellers... Brisnet, DRF, HDW, and Track Master. (PLEASE DO NOT BLAME HDW for this!)

• Sectional position:

Position at Call 1 is stored in field #70... or column BR if the file is open in Excel.

Position at Call 2 is stored in field #71... or column BS if the file is open in Excel.

• Sectional leader margin/beaten lengths:

Call 1 Lengths Behind is stored in field #77... or column BY if the file is open in Excel.

Call 2 Lengths Behind is stored in field #78... or column BZ if the file is open in Excel.

I hope I managed to type most of that out in a way that makes sense.
